Hotel Gracery Asakusa Review | Asakusa Hotel Near Kaminarimon

by taiwanderjessica

Hotel Gracery Asakusa is a modern Tokyo hotel that offers a warm, comfortable stay just steps away from Kaminarimon and Asakusa Station.

I stayed here during a 4-day, 3-night Tokyo trip in late December 2023, checking in on both the first and third nights. On the second day, I took the Spacia X train to Nikko and stayed at Nikko Kojoen (湖上苑). Thanks to Hotel Gracery Asakusa’s proximity to Tobu Asakusa Station, the logistics were effortless.

It’s also the first hotel I visited after launching my travel blog(the one in Mandarin). Before that, all my travel photos were taken without any intention of blogging… which makes this stay feel even more meaningful.

Hotel Gracery Asakusa Overview

Hotel Name: Hotel Gracery Asakusa
Address: 2-10-2 Kaminarimon, Taito-ku, Tokyo 111-0034, Japan
Nearest Station: Asakusa Station (Toei Asakusa Line), Exit A1 – 3-minute walk
Stay Dates: Late December 2023 (2 nights total)

Hotel Gracery Asakusa is located just a short walk from Kaminarimon Gate, with an APA Hotel directly across the street. I mainly used Exit A4, which brings you out near a FamilyMart, though both A4 and A5 require climbing a short set of stairs. I did get slightly lost the first time.

When leaving early on the fourth morning for my flight, I used Exit A2b, which has an elevator — very convenient if you have luggage. According to a detailed Asakusa station guide I found later, A2b (Toei Subway) and Exit 1 (Tokyo Metro) are the only nearby exits with elevators.

If you’re planning a Tokyo stay, I highly recommend considering hotels around Asakusa Station for easy access to trains and sightseeing.

Hotel Gracery Asakusa Lobby & Check-in Experience

I didn’t manage to photograph the front desk, but the lobby itself is compact and efficient. There are usually two counters operating at the same time. I overheard staff at a neighboring counter explaining that there’s a water dispenser on the second floor, though the staff who assisted me didn’t mention it.

Some of the staff speak Mandarin Chinese, which may be helpful for some travelers.

At check-in, the staff mentioned a free membership program offering a choice of three perks:

  • One-hour late check-out
  • One complimentary drink
  • One additional benefit (I honestly forgot which one)

Since we had early mornings both days, we didn’t sign up.

There are also self-service check-in kiosks next to the counter. They were temporarily out of service on my first day but operational when I returned on the third day. Staff assisted us with the kiosk process, so I didn’t need to operate it myself.

Hotel Gracery Asakusa Room Tour & Layout

I stayed in Room 805 on the first night and Room 802 on the third night. Both rooms were on the same side of the building, with windows but no particular view. The layouts were mirrored versions of each other, though Room 805 felt slightly more spacious.

Room size: ~18 sqm (approx. 194 sq ft)

Despite being carpeted, luggage rolled smoothly and didn’t feel heavy to push.

Tokyo temperatures in late December were around 5–7°C (41–45°F), but the room was comfortably heated. The duvet deserves special praise — thin, lightweight, yet impressively warm. It didn’t feel bulky at all and made sleeping extremely comfortable.

The wood-tone flooring and warm color palette gave the room a cozy, almost studio-apartment vibe rather than a typical business hotel. Even the slippers felt more solid and comfortable than standard disposable hotel slippers.

Hotel Gracery Asakusa Review: Desk, Seating & Thoughtful Details

The triangular desk was surprisingly practical, and the compact sofa chair made excellent use of the limited space. The upholstery featured a subtle gold woven pattern that looked beautiful up close.

One detail I absolutely loved:
👉 A jewelry tray placed on the desk.
This was my first time seeing one in a chain hotel, and it was incredibly useful for rings and earrings.

The Wi-Fi password is cleverly set as the hotel’s opening date — a small but memorable touch.

Bathroom: One of the Best Features

The bathroom takes up a significant portion of the room, and that’s a good thing.

Unlike the typical all-in-one Japanese hotel bathroom, this room features a three-part separated layout:

  • Sink area
  • Toilet
  • Bathtub and shower behind sliding doors

The bathtub is larger than average, with enough space for a small stool and wash basin, making it feel very home-like. There’s also a designated basket for used towels at the bottom — another thoughtful detail.

The bathroom amenities were better than expected. I’m usually picky about hotel shampoo, but my hair felt soft and smooth after blow-drying(Yes we blow dry our hair everyday in Japan and in Taiwan). Interestingly, the hairdryer storage bags had different traditional Japanese patterns in each room — a small design detail that added charm.

  • Hairdryer: Panasonic
  • Tea provided: Ito En green tea bags

Nearby Supermarkets & Late-Night Shopping

If you’re staying in Asakusa, I highly recommend visiting Seiyu Asakusa ROX Food Hall(Click to Google map), about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Prices were shockingly good.

Examples:

  • Cream puffs for ¥58 (around US$0.40)
  • Godiva collaboration desserts for around ¥200
  • Häagen-Dazs mini cups under ¥250

They also carry many stylish private-label products with very attractive packaging.

There’s also an Ozeki Asakusa Kaminarimon supermarket near the hotel, open until 9 PM. It’s smaller and can feel crowded during peak hours, but they sell roasted sweet potatoes that smell amazing.

Final Verdict: Is Hotel Gracery Asakusa Worth It?

We left the hotel at 5am for an early flight. After staying here for two nights, I’d confidently recommend Hotel Gracery Asakusa if you’re looking for:

Pros

  • Excellent location near Asakusa Station & Kaminarimon
  • Comfortable room size by Tokyo standards
  • Spacious, separated bathroom with soaking tub
  • Exceptionally comfortable duvet
  • Nearby supermarkets for late-night shopping

Cons

  • No complimentary bottled water in the room

Overall, this hotel offers a warm, home-like decor in a very convenient part of Tokyo, and it holds a special place for me as the first hotel review on my blog. If you value comfort, location, and a good bath after a long day of sightseeing, Hotel Gracery Asakusa is a solid choice.
