A Convenient One-Night Stay Near Yokohama Port Before a Cruise
(This blog contains affiliate links)
I stayed one night at APA Hotel & Resort Yokohama Bay Tower the day before boarding Peace Boat Voyage 114(as volunteer intepreter), and overall, it worked well as a pre-cruise hotel near Yokohama Port.
Completed in 2019, this APA property has more of a large-scale resort vibe compared to standard APA business hotels. While the rooms are undeniably small, the hotel makes up for it with a large public bath (onsen), great night views, multiple 24-hour FamilyMart convenience stores, and excellent proximity to the cruise terminal.
If you’re looking for a short, practical stay before a Yokohama cruise, this hotel is worth considering.
Transportation from Haneda Airport to Yokohama (YCAT)
This was my first time visiting Yokohama, and I was traveling solo with one large suitcase, one small suitcase and one additional travel bag because I was about to travel the world on a cruise for 108 days.
To avoid dragging luggage through multiple train transfers, I chose the Keihin Kyuko Airport Limousine Bus from Haneda Airport to Yokohama City Air Terminal (YCAT), then took a taxi to the hotel.

I boarded the 23:15 bus, which arrived at YCAT around 23:35. One important thing to note:
👉 Ticket machines stop selling tickets 5 minutes before departure, so don’t cut it too close.

After arriving at YCAT, there’s a clearly lit map showing how to walk to the taxi stand. I don’t have the exact taxi receipt anymore, but based on Uber estimates, the fare typically ranges from ¥1,600–¥2,100, with a base fare starting around ¥500.

The location is excellent if you’re cruising from Yokohama. The hotel is close to:
- Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse(I went there on my last solo morning before boarding)
- Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal (cruise port)
Since my cruise check-in time was 1:30 PM the next day, I had about two hours in the morning to explore the area, which was more than enough.

APA Hotel & Resort Yokohama Bay Tower Check-In Experience & Hotel Layout

The lobby is bright and modern, but the self-check-in machines are lined up in long rows, which may feel a bit overwhelming if you dislike automated check-ins.

I arrived close to midnight and briefly considered asking for a late check-out, but the fee was ¥1,000 per hour, so I skipped it.
The building has 35 floors, with restaurants scattered throughout. The large public bath is on the 4th floor, along with two 24-hour FamilyMart stores, which is incredibly convenient for late-night snacks.
APA Hotel & Resort Yokohama Bay Tower Room Tour & In-Room Amenities

Let’s be honest: the room is very small, even by Japanese standards.
- Room size: 11㎡ (approx. 118 sq ft / 3.3 ping)
- A 29-inch suitcase cannot fully open flat
- Best suited for solo travelers
That said, everything is clean and efficiently designed. APA often locates at the most convenient place but the hideous wallpaper and the size of the room turns people off.
What You’ll Find in the Room

- Compact bathroom with water-saving bathtub (APA claims 20% reduced water usage)
- TESCOM hair dryer (APA collaborates with TESCOM)
- Large wall-mounted TV at the foot of the bed
- Displays real-time public bath crowd levels, which is surprisingly useful but a standard practice
- Fast and stable Wi-Fi

The Wi-Fi speed impressed me. I realized at the last minute that I needed to download podcasts and Netflix shows before boarding my cruise—and everything downloaded quickly without issues.
Public Bath (Onsen) Experience

Photography is not allowed inside the public bath, so I didn’t bring my phone.
The bath area is spacious, with:
- Large soaking pools
- Individual ceramic soaking tubs, which give a very authentic onsen feel
🕒 Public Bath Hours:
- 15:00 – 02:00
- 06:00 – 10:00
(Last entry: 30 minutes before closing)
I entered around 1:00 AM, then grabbed a late-night snack from FamilyMart before going to bed after 2:00 AM. It was the perfect way to unwind before a cruise day.

Room View & Night Scenery

I stayed on the 26th floor. Although I originally booked a non-view room, I was upgraded to a room with a view, and the night scenery was beautiful.

From my window, I could see:
- Osanbashi Pier
- The luxury Japanese cruise ship Asuka II docked nearby
My Peace Boat hadn’t arrived yet, but the next afternoon, I discovered it was docked on the opposite side of the same pier—a very convenient location.

Taxi Fare from APA Hotel to Yokohama Cruise Terminal
The next morning, after visiting Red Brick Warehouse and having ramen nearby, I returned to the hotel to pick up my luggage.
- Uber estimate: ~¥600
- Hotel-called taxi actual fare: ¥1,300
- Travel time: About 4 minutes
This is something to keep in mind in Japan:
You’re unlikely to be overcharged maliciously, but dispatch fees and service charges can significantly increase short taxi rides.
I experienced the same thing later when traveling from Osanbashi Pier to Yokohama Port Post Office—Uber showed ¥500, but I was charged ¥900 after additional fees.
