Hamacho Hotel Tokyo Review: A Stylish Design Hotel Near TCAT with Easy Airport Access

by taiwanderjessica

Hamacho Hotel Tokyo is a modern design hotel that located in the quiet Nihonbashi–Hamacho area.

With three subway stations nearby, a 24-hour supermarket directly across the street, and Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) just a 5-minute walk away, this hotel is especially convenient for travelers heading to Narita or Haneda Airport.

After returning to Tokyo on the Peace Boat Voyage 114(as volunteer interpreter) in 2023, I stayed here for three nights based on a strong recommendation from my partner. This was my first time staying in the Suitengumae / Hamacho neighborhood, and compared to Tokyo’s more tourist-heavy areas, it felt much more like everyday Tokyo — residential, calm, and relaxing. After three nights, I can confidently say this is a hotel I’d happily recommend.

Location & Transportation: Ideal for Airport Transfers

One of the biggest advantages of Hamacho Hotel is its proximity to Tokyo City Air Terminal (T-CAT).

  • 5-minute walk to TCAT
  • Narita Airport: approx. 55 minutes
  • Haneda Airport: approx. 25 minutes

This means you can travel to and from the airport without dragging large suitcases through complex subway stations, which is a huge plus after a long trip.

If you’re not staying in Tokyo for the first time and don’t need to be near major hubs like Shinjuku or Asakusa, this area offers a refreshing alternative.

If you prefer major hubs, I recommend Asakusa, where I stayed at this hotel near Kaminarimon

Hamacho Hotel Tokyo Overview

Hotel Name: Hamacho Hotel Tokyo
Address: 1-1-1 Nihonbashi Hamacho, Chuo City, Tokyo, Japan
Stay Dates: Late July 2023 (3 nights)

Nearest Stations:

  • Hamacho Station
  • Suitengumae Station
  • Ningyocho Station
(All within about a 7-minute walk)

Facilities:

The chocolate shop is located on the opposite side of the building with its own separate entrance, similar to how some design hotels integrate lifestyle brands. It reminded me of SO/Bangkok, which also has a chocolate boutique on the ground floor.

Lobby & Public Spaces

From the moment you enter the hotel, you’re greeted by large, elegant sofas, dark wood tones, and abundant greenery both inside and outside the building. The overall atmosphere feels calm, stylish, and thoughtfully designed — very different from a standard business hotel.

On the left side of the lobby is Session, the hotel’s restaurant and bar. The space feels trendy and relaxed, with many international guests dining there. During the day, Session also serves as the breakfast venue.

My stay did not include breakfast, but my friend stayed here in February and July 2023 and enjoyed it both times. I’ve included their breakfast photos later in this post.

Room Tour & Design Details

The room size is 15 square meters (about 160 sq ft). While compact, it felt very comfortable for two people and never cramped, well at least for two petite women.

The room features:

  • Warm indirect lighting
  • Cozy, modern design
  • A bed with medium firmness — very comfortable for sleeping
  • High-quality cups, tissue box, and slippers

Every detail feels intentional and well-designed.

One of my favorite features was the small balcony-facing window. You can’t step outside, but the greenery-filled view made the room feel much more relaxing.

Some wonderful snacks prepared by my partner.

Bathroom Amenities

The bathroom design is consistent across rooms. The photo shown here was taken by my friend during her 2019 stay, but the layout and amenities remain largely the same.

  • Shampoo and body wash are of good quality
  • Amenities are also available for purchase downstairs
  • Clean, modern, and well-maintained

24-Hour Supermarket & Nearby Convenience

Directly across the street is a Peacock supermarket, open 24 hours a day. It’s incredibly convenient for late-night snacks. During our stay, we bought juicy Japanese white peaches, which were amazing.

In the evening, the hotel also offers a DIY bath salt station near the front desk. Guests can create their own blend using:

  • Dried lavender, rose, chrysanthemum
  • 12 different essential oils

It’s a lovely, thoughtful touch — and makes a great small souvenir.

Breakfast at Hamacho Hotel Tokyo

Below are breakfast photos taken by my friend during February & July 2023

The breakfast is served at Session Restaurant and features a stylish, well-balanced set that matches the hotel’s design-forward identity.

(Next time, I’m definitely booking a rate with breakfast.)

Final Verdict: Is Hamacho Hotel Tokyo Worth It?

My three-night stay at Hamacho Hotel Tokyo was extremely comfortable. The area is pleasant for walking, with multiple subway stations nearby, and Suitengu Shrine just around the corner.

Compared to typical Japanese business hotels, Hamacho Hotel offers:

  • More design
  • More greenery
  • A more relaxed, residential atmosphere

There are also plenty of local treats nearby, including taiyaki, ningyo-yaki, and traditional rice crackers.

If this isn’t your first time in Tokyo, or if you’re looking for a hotel with easy airport access and a calmer neighborhood, Hamacho Hotel Tokyo is an excellent choice. I’d absolutely stay here again — and next time, I won’t skip breakfast.
